Palacio de Cibeles, new space for culture and new Town Hall

As you probably know already, the refurbishment of the Palacio de Cibeles is almost over. GEASYT took part in this project as building services engineering, where the computer simulations used to design the HVAC system for the Galería de Cristales (a 2500 m2 glass-covered courtyard) stand out.

We would like to remind you that the Palacio de Cibeles (CentroCentro) is open to the public until the 27th of July 2011. Opening hours are from tuesday to sunday, from 10.00 to 20.00. The building is accessed through the main entrance in Plaza de Cibeles and the following exhibits may be visited: “Habitantes y paseantes” on the first floor, “El Palacio de Cibeles” on the second foor and the photo-exhibit on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floor: “Muller-Campano: the refurbishment of the Palacio de Cibeles”. The viewpoint on the top of the tower is also open to the public, as well as the auditorium on the first basement (more info, in Spanish).

Take a look at our photo gallery to see some of the new spectactular areas.

The view from the top of the tower is amazing, here is a small video preview.

Construction works for the Eco-Pyramids begin

The construction works for the ‘Eco-Pyramids’ situated on the roof of Raimundo Fernández Villaverde 8 have begun, as part of GEASYT’s activity in the building.

The objective of the pyramids is to reduce the visual impact of air handling units and other systems situated on the roof, providing green areas in a space that was previously unused. The building, which is managed by Madrid Espacios y Congresos and already hosts a garden in one of its courtyards, will become a good reference of the possibilities of integration of environmental solutions in buildings.

Other examples of integration of green areas in architecture include Caixa Forum’s building, situated in Madrid’s Paseo del Prado, which holds a vertical garden -designed by Patrick Blanc- in one of its façades (read more).

Industrial Factory in Vicálvaro, Madrid.

Tomorrow, 28th January, the mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, will visit the ‘Factoría Industrial’, an infrastructure aimed at small enterprises in both the industrial and service sectors. GEASYT is in charge of the complex’s Project Management.

Factoria Industrial: Vicalvaro, Madrid.

The premises, situated in the Vicálvaro district in Madrid, has been designed to provide small companies from Madrid with adequate spaces for rent. These spaces have been specifically designed to meet the companies’ needs.

This first industrial factory is divided into 16 industrial premises with an area of 280m2 per space, upgradeable to 370m2. The premises have natural lighting, solar energy systems, restroom, showers, etc.

An annex building has been constructed to contain a conference room, access control point and a parking lot. The premises have been designed in order to provide the companies that install themselves with all sorts of services. ‘Madrid Emprende’ will administer the premises, taking care of maintenance and providing consultancy, educational courses and help with hiring.

The Museum of Medina Azahara receives the Aga Khan Award

On the 24th of November, the Museum of Medina Azahara, designed by architects Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano, received the prestigious Aga Khan Architecture Award of 2010 (read more, on the award’s official site).

GEASYT was responsible for the design of the museum’s systems, with special attention to the integration of the system’s components in the building, in order to reduce their visual impact. Click here to read an extensive article on the project, published in January 2010 in ‘Ambiente y Clima’ magazine (in Spanish).

Website update

We open today our new website, with revised and updated contents. We have also added an English and French version, in addition to the existing one in Spanish, due to the increasing internationalisation of our clients. You can access our new site by clicking here.

Additionally, GEASYT’s paper on the thermal simulation for the Patio de Cristales of Madrid’s Town Hall, presented during the XIV International Congress on Project Engineering has been selected to be published internationally.

XIV International Congress on Project Engineering

On the 2nd of july, GEASYT received a prize for the paper presented at the XIV International Congress on Project Engineering organized by AEIPRO.

The paper on “Efficiency of the Fluid-Dynamics Simulation for HVAC of the Salón de la Villa del Palacio de Telecomunicaciones”, presented by GEASYT, obtained the consolation prize from the General Board of the Industrial Engineering Association.

The paper presents the fluid-dynamics simulation process used for the design and evaluation of the HVAC system designed for the Patio de la Villa, the 24 metre high glass-covered courtyard in Madrid’s new Town Hall (read more).
